Oh, Hello Mr. Postman

It’s February already?! This year is flying by! How was your weekend? Did you watch the Superbowl? My husband was while I was having fun decorating my handmade Valentine’s cards for the Handmade Valentine Swap by Lydnsey. I love participating in these blog swaps. It gives me a goal to work towards, and helps me meet more people from around the world! Remember you can be a part of Oh, Hello Mr. Postman by taking a photo of letters you send to your pen pals and use the hashtag #ohhellomrpostman to post it on Instagram!

So since I am making a handmade valentine for my next snail mail letter, I want to keep this one a surprise until she gets it! Be sure to check back later to see how it turned out.

The letter I do have for you today is going to Yuushiina (or Uce as her nickname) living in Indonesia. I asked her what her favorite color is, and she loves orange. I already had a plan of making washi tape stickers, and using my orange flowery washi tape was perfect. Check it out!

These were fun to make! Here’s a detailed shot of the stickers.

Want to learn how to make your own? Here is a tutorial from FactoryCraftDirect.com. I didn’t have any wax paper (I never really do) so I used the back of an empty sticker sheet I had. Reduce, reuse, recycle right? I didn’t have to line up my pattern since the flower pattern is pretty random. I used 2 strips of washi tape to get the width of the Fiskars punch I used. Since the shape is so delicate, I wanted to take off the sticker in 1 piece. The wax paper made it easy so I carefully took the backing off with the 2 pieces of washi tape still intact. Have fun making washi tape stickers!

And a 2×2 photograph. So, I want to see your handmade Valentines too! Hashtag ’em with #ohhellomrpostman Have a lovely Monday!

Sincerely,

Jamie

Oh, Hello Mr. Postman

This week’s letters were a little challenging. Designing how I wanted these letters to look weren’t hard nor was writing to the recipients difficult. I guess I just might be running out of steam. It is hard to tap into that creativity each and every week. It takes a little out of you-your heart, your mind. I guess I’m just building up my endurance-to keep writing, to keep decorating your letters.

Even though this week proved a little more challenging, I can say that I had a lot of fun decorating these letters. I even stalked researched the recipients favorite colors. I hope they like their letters, and I hope you enjoy them as well.

Letter #7 is going to Lacey in North Carolina. Since Valentine’s Day is coming, and I’m in the lovey-dovey mood, I wanted this letter to be hot pink! I used Avery labels to create a hot pink border. It’s a very modern and chic style. I stamped today’s date with my Studio Calico date roller, and I stamped “Hey” using a Studio Calico clear stamp. To add a little glitter, I used glittery alphabet stickers for Lacey’s name. The little extra’s are a project life card which I wrote on, a handmade tag, initial letter cut-outs, post-it notes in a matchbook, some hot air balloon stickers, and a hot pink envelope decorated with Oh, Hello Friend hearts masking tape.

DSCN1870DSCN1869

The 2×2 photograph says, “Shake dreams from your hair.” Don’t mind if I do!

DSCN1863

Letter #8 is a fun one going to Joyce in Malaysia! Don’t you just love the classic airmail style and colors! I used the red and blue airmail washi tape to line the borders. I wrote the letter in a horizontal fashion to mimic those classic airmail envelopes. Stamping the envelope was fun! I’m new to stamping and clear stamps, so bear with me. As usual, I added a handmade tag. I also added these cute robot stickers (“I steered us with my wilderness explorer GPS. Boop Beep Beep Beep Boop. With this baby, we’ll never be lost! [accidentally throws the GPS out the window] Oops.”) Do you know what movie this quote is from? You’re awesome if you do, and it’s OK if you don’t, watch this funny and cute movie. I also added a “Hello, My name is” sticker, a blue paper clip with a washi tape flag, an initial “J” cut out, a tiny airline tag, and another airmail decorated envelope with Oh, Hello friend airmail masking tape.

DSCN1865

The 2×2 photograph reads, “Whatever makes you feel bad, leave it. Whatever makes you smile, keep it.”

Happy Monday everyone!

Sincerely,

Jamie

Oh, Hello Mr. Postman

Hope you are enjoying your day off today commemorating this Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. For my international readers, the U.S. observes the 3rd Monday of January each year as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to honor his use of nonviolence to bring awareness to racial and socioeconomic inequalities for minorities. We observe this day around this time of his birthday on January 15, 1929. You can read more about his great activism here.

Today’s letter is Letter #5. Hasn’t January gone by so fast already? We’re already into the middle of the month. This letter is a special letter going out to Magdalena in Singapore. We were paired for the last Snail Mail Collective hosted by The Nector Collective. Check out her neat blog dedicated to snail mail as well!

We had already been chatting through email, so I wanted to write her a long letter. I learned that her favorite color is also green. We had both wrote a yellow letter to someone else on the same day, and it’s a color that makes us both happy, so naturally I wanted green and yellow to be the color scheme. I learned of this great technique of making ruffles using washi tape here. It was a bit difficult getting the hang of it but once you do, it’s easy! I added a handmade vellum envelope I made using the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board (so fun to use I’m addicted). I added some sticky notes, a green paper clip, a toothpick flag (use it to decorate your cupcake), and a handmade tag for the Oh, Hello Mr. Postman project I include in all my letters. I’m also adding a little something extra for her. Be sure to check back for what she snail mailed me for the last Snail Mail Collective.

Trisha, from the Philippines where my family is also from, is the 2nd recipient of my snail mail letter. It has been 9 years since I have been to the Philippines which has been too long. If you haven’t visited the Philippines, it is a gorgeous country with beautiful beaches that out compare Hawaiian beaches and cheap shopping. Trisha sent me a beautiful postcard of the Philippines with all these scenic photographs of different destinations including Boracay. Boracay was the island I visited 9 years ago, and I will never forget it! White sands, amazing snorkeling, and good food!

The color theme for this letter is peach. She said this was her favorite color, so I rummaged through all my letter decorating supplies for anything peach. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what the color peach was. I like to think it’s in-between the colors of pink and orange. I used a peach chevron and a floral washi tape to create a banner along the top of the letter. I added the letters “T” and “F” for her initials, 4 tulip stickers, page flags, a toothpick flag, and the handmade Oh, Hello Mr. Postman tag.

DSCN1811

I also made this 3×4 inch envelope that says “From sunrise to sunset, in a dream.” Isn’t it so cute?DSCN1812

And to commemorate today’s holiday, I will leave you with this quote by Martin Luther King Jr.

Whatever your life’s work, do it well.

Have a Happy Monday!

Sincerely,

Jamie

Great Christmas Exchange 2013

Awesomeness!

It’s the middle of January, and I’m still in the Christmas mood. For me the gift of giving, never ends. It pleases my soul to give and bring happiness to those who truly need it. I definitely feel the more you give, the more you receive ten-fold. But even if I never receive anything in return, the feeling of fulfillment warms my heart.

For the Great Christmas Exchange hosted by Elizabeth and Samantha, this is what the lovely Lacey from Humming Right Along gave me! How much awesomeness is this! Thank you Lacey for your kind and generous heart. Finding what to buy someone, especially someone you have never met can be so challenging but she did so well! I didn’t take a picture of what I gave to my Secret Santa recipient, but when they open it and post a picture hopefully I get to show you what I gave.

The first thing I opened on Christmas Eve was the smallest little wrapped present. I’m a sucker for anything tiny so I was immediately drawn to opening this first. It was the cutest eraser with the Double Decker Bus from London on it. I was reading on her blog that she recently went to England. How cool is that! I’ve been to London when I was in high school with my marching band over 9 years ago. I loved that city! My husband I will definitely go in the future, once we save up enough.

Cuteness!

Tearing through the creative wrapping (which I will be putting some in my Smash book), I find the funniest note cards saying “well, nuts.” I have to mail one to friends if their having a bad day. This would sure cheer them up! And how gorgeous is this notebook. I love collecting notebooks and jotting down random ideas I have and this is perfect for that.

The red studded gloves were the first thing I peeked at when I opened the box. I wanted to read the card and see who my Secret Santa was and contact her to let her know I received the package. Lacey studded these awesome gloves herself! I love anything handmade! And last but not least, I opened the cutely decorated kraft box tied with twine. Inside was a gorgeous green necklace (green being my favorite color). I can’t wait to pair it with a cute outfit (post on that to come soon).

Thank you so much, Lacey. I will definitely be writing a thank you letter to her, and she will be part of my Oh, Hello Mr. Postman series! Hope you enjoyed this Secret Santa reveal! Have a great Wednesday!

Sincerely,

Jamie

Oh, Hello Mr. Postman

Hello Beautiful! Did you do anything fun this weekend? Tell me in the comments how your lovely weekend went. Remember how I was sick last weekend, well now my husband is sick. It’s inevitable that everyone in the same house gives the bug to each other. So, I was taking care of him since he took care of me. He is feeling a little better now and just in time for our six month wedding anniversary today! Yeah!

I still look back at our wedding pictures and remember the bliss of it all. I want to start another new blog series all about weddings. I’ll be giving wedding tips, advice, and decor ideas you can use. I planned my entire wedding along with help from my now husband. Planning our wedding will always be one of my greatest life achievements. It wasn’t just planning a party; it was a full time job. If you’re planning your own wedding or helping a friend, don’t worry, I’m here to help! Let me know in the comments what you need help on, and I’ll do my best to answer your questions 🙂

Back to the topic of the day. This is my first “found letter.” Woo hoo! What’s a found letter you ask? It’s a letter I wrote with the intention of hiding it for a stranger to find. It’s an inspirational letter to hopefully brighten their day.

There are high schoolers that park their cars in my neighborhood as they go to school down the street, and I want to leave it for one of them. I might just put this letter on the windshield of one of their cars. I know we have all experienced those difficult teen years. The hormones, the drama, the uncertainty of the future. If you’re still in high school, you will make it through like I did! I have to say it was pretty tough for me. I thank God that I had marching band to keep me busy. And yes, I was a band geek.

So of course, the color scheme for this first found letter is yellow. Yellow is such a happy, joyous color. It is also the color of friendship. I used yellow striped washi tape to decorate the side of the letter. I handmade an envelope using the brightest yellow paper I had. I even made yellow and white heart confetti. Hopefully this bright yellow letter will brighten someone’s day.

The next letter is obviously for a man- Mr. Yves Debroyer from Belgium. I saw pictures of his lovely calligraphy on Instagram, so it was fitting to do a little calligraphy myself. I am by no means an expert in calligraphy. I just dabbled in it when addressing my engagement party invitation envelopes and practiced every now and then.

In this letter, I used white ink on black paper. White ink on colored paper is so beautiful. The blue piece of paper with “San Francisco” on it was written by Laura Lavender for my wedding table numbers, but it this case, table names. I’ll post more about this in the future. That white envelope with my maiden name was written by Fozzy Dayrit who addressed all our return addresses for our wedding RSVPs. I included these little extras as a nice touch for my calligraphy lover recipient. And lastly, that tan envelope is a hand-stained envelope by me. I used coffee to give it that aged look, and it has a used orange vintage Yugoslavian stamp. Researching a little about the stamp it is from 1953, a rare and gorgeous stamp.

I hope you enjoyed these letters. Remember to follow @ohhellomrpostman on Instagram to see more photos of this snail mail goodness as well as featured photos of letters written by you!  Post a picture of a letter or postcard you wrote to someone with the hashtag #ohhellomrpostman and you might just get featured! Oh, Hello Mr. Postman

Good morning, World! How was your weekend? Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling too well, but my lovely husband was taking care of me. Soup and sleep was my motto for this past weekend. Anyways, here are the first 2 letters for my new blog series, “Oh, Hello Mr. Postman.” Damaris from Florida is my 1st wonderful recipient of my snail mail letter. I am so thankful that she has been such a big help to me in this little project of mine. So, thank you!

I am still in the Christmas/giving mood so I wanted the color scheme of this letter to be red, glittery, and kraft. I like adding little extras, too! That is a handmade envelope made by yours truly.

1st letter

Yashinta from Indonesia is my 2nd recipient of my snail mail letter. I would love to visit Indonesia one day, but my letter traveling to Yashinta will do for now. Did you know Indonesia is the 4th most populous country in the world? Neither did I! Thank you Wikipedia for telling me.

The color theme for this letter is obviously pink! I added some cute stickers, extra stationary, and an inspirational quote on a Project Life card. Keep your head up lovelies, and “Don’t stop dreaming!”

2nd Letter

Hope you enjoyed reading my 1st post of my Monday blog series “Oh, Hello Mr. Postman” and looking at these letters of snail mail goodness! Enjoy your Monday, lovelies!

Sincerely,

Jamie

Oh, Hello Mr. Postman

December 30, 2013

Dear World,

This is my first letter to you! Starting January 6, 2014, I will be writing 104 letters to people all over the world! Every Monday, I will mail a hand written and hand decorated letter to people who had wanted to participate in this little project of mine. I’m from California, U.S. and I will be sending letters to people from other countries like England, the Philippines, Morocco, Singapore, and Turkey just to name a few. These will be the “snail mail letters!”

Of these 104 letters, I will hide locally some inspirational letters in bookstores or other stores for anyone to find hoping to add some brightness to their day. These will be the “found letters.” So for the next 52 weeks every Monday, 2 letters will go out into the world from me. I will mail 1 snail mail letter, and I will hide 1 “found letter” in my local city for a lucky someone to find!

Why am I doing this? I want to spread a bit of peace and love out into the world, by mail! Letter writing has become a lost art, and I want to be a part of this snail mail revolution, too. You can be be a part of this snail mail revolution, too! Just write a letter or send a post card to a friend who lives far away or even your neighbor down the street! But before you put that letter in the mail box for the postman, take a picture of it and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #ohhellomrpostman. I might just feature your letter on my Instagram of @ohhellomrpostman dedicated to this series. 🙂

So follow me along this snail mail revolution and bring a little snail mail brightness to your Mondays. Every Monday, I will be posting pictures of the 2 letters and featured letters here on this blog! This is my new blog series called, “Oh, Hello Mr. Postman!”

Sincerely,

Jamie

Second to Last Snail Mail Collective

The Snail Mail Collective will be closing it’s doors forever! I’m sad since I only participated in it this one time but you bet I’m participating in it for the last time. If you haven’t heard of the Snail Mail Collective, it is this genius idea created by Melyssa from The Nector Collective and Chelsea from Lost in Travels. They pair you up with someone from around the world, and you get to know them through email and “stalking” their blog. Then, you create sorta like a care package totaling $5 that pertains to the month’s theme. November’s theme was “What are you grateful for?” And most importantly, you include a postcard from where you are from. I’m excited to share with you my Snail Mail Collective partner from October.

Mandi blog

Meet Mandi from the Mandi Holmes blog. She is a native Texan who has been married for a little over a year now. I still consider her and her hubby newlyweds like Steve and I. We are similar in age and we both love crafting and being creative. It’s funny how you can have so much in common with another person that you have never met. It makes the world feel much more smaller this way.

She started out with a questionnaire which is a great way to break the ice and learn a lot about your partner. Click here for the full questionnaire. I’m not sure where she got it from but I found it on this video game forum lol. We emailed back and forth and even blogged about each other’s shop. Here she blogged about mine. I can’t wait to share with you what was snail mailed to me.

Snail Mail 1

Loved how she included the PayDay chocolate bars because like all of us we are grateful for pay day!

DSCN1693

How awesome is her art! She made this for me, and I will definitely be framing this.

I will be posting next year my last Snail Mail Collective pairing. Have a beautiful Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Jamie
